Summer is officially upon us…(can someone please let the weather know!)…and for the first month of summer I’ll have 23 gigs to bust out. Within all my usual residencies (Thurs at Alia, Fridays at Strike/The George, Saturdays at Vintage/Miss Libs and Sundays at Notorious) there’ll be a sprinkling of private gigs, Saintside’s New Era party plus 360 Agency’s newest weekly night WE. Get ready for a shit load of YO!MAFIA madness in December…check out all the dates HERE.
LIVE AT LIV
To counteract all the electronica and dance that will be bombarding Melbourne this weekend, CQ are throwing a MASSIVE RNB night at LIV tomoz (aka Friday). But don’t fret, there will be a little bit of house in the building thanks to Mark Pelligrini and Yeah Right DJs. I’ll be headlining from 11:30-12:30, so if you’re trawling the city or on your way to the strippers then make sure you make a detour to the bangin’ YO! MAFIA JAMS. All deets are in the flyer above!
ODE TO BLOSSOM
I’ve always been a massive fan of the TV Show BLOSSOM for a long minute and with 2011 it’s 20th year anniversary, I thought I pay my respects to Mayim Bialik and the lead character that helped shape my fashion steez. She was way ahead of her time with her vintage goodness, and if you jump over to THE VINE you can read my entire love letter to the show! Over 3000 hits already on this awesomeness!!!
COX PLATE X NOVA 100 VID RECAP
This year I had the honour of rocking the NOVA100 Tent at the Tatts Cox Plate Moonee Valley Race Course. It was an incredible day fuelled with all you can eat goods and all you can drank cocktails. Needless to say, things got messy very quickly! On the ones and twos with me were the incredible BAG RAIDERS as well as the awesome Eddie Rinaldo – each of us rocking our own signature blend of party jams and dope bangers. Moonee Valley Racing just released the epic recap video featuring Hughsey and Kate plus a swag of horse race fans, which you can see AFTER THE JUMP.…mad times indeed!
SPANKS PIONEER!
Most DJs will know that technology is moving so fast it’s impossible to keep up with all the new ways you can mix and make your life easier when traveling from gig to gig. I’ll be the first to admit that taking the plunge to use Serato back in 2006 was one of the hardest decisions to make as a spin doctor. Everyone balked at the idea of DJng straight off a laptop without digging through crates to find that next gem. But my back decided the time was right, after lugging at least four crates of records to each gig. And working at Revolver and tryna get them up those bluddy stairs was a nightmare. But even Serato looks old school these days with all-purpose consoles being created that don’t even need CDs, vinyl or laptops. This is definitely the age of ‘anyone can be a DJ’. They’ve made it so simple, you can literally rock up to a gig with one USB key and a pair of headphones and you’re good to go.
JAGUAR SKILLS
Another killer event I’m stoked to be DJn on is the insane JAGUAR SKILLS show in Melbourne at the awesomely refurbished Laundry Bar. If you haven’t been down to the Johnston St spot since its takeover, this is the night to get down! With a crazy new stage area, dope new bar, loads of couches and killer dancefloor, you can come chill and listen or get your sweat on and dance til you cramp up in a spasm! If you love insane mash ups like you’ve never heard before, get down to the UK legend’s only Melbourne show this Saturday night. More deats at the FACEBOOK EVENT!
NEW MIX – DAMMIT JANET
I know I know – two mixes released in a week! Wow…I’m really on fire haha! More like after saying goodbye to two days a week at Sneaker Freaker Magazine, I have more time to bust out some flavas and goodness for your ears! This Janet Jackson mix had to be done…after her supposed Live And Intimate shows in Melbourne (which turned into one massive stadium show – everything the artist had promised against) finally went down last week. It was a nervous time for Jackson fans as Janet flew back to LA to be with her family for the Conrad Murray trial, thus rescheduling her three dates into this one massive show. From all reports the show was a bluddy hit and fans were left wanting more, so I stepped in to create this 60 minute opus to the lady, spanning her amazing 30 year career! Download and listen here! FAVELA ROCK – SEPT
Yup…another Favela, another big ballin’ trash party! Things got way too hectic way too early with drizzunk Parklife folks bustin’ to get in on the Favela Rock action! Bet we’ll top that messiness with the next big ass party..celebratin’ 6 years of Favela Rockin’ yo!! Hit the jump to check out the mayhem!!!
